So what would you guys do??????Buy a new FI model or get a smokin deal on a carburated model????? And why??? I would think there is more potential in a carbed model????? Lets hear it
Well if you really want to mod it now, get the carb since the fuel management upgrades for the fuel injection will not be out for some time. Other than that, everything else should work on it without issue.
I personally would like to have fuel injection...jetting is a PITA.
gotta talk to someone who knows what the fi can do! I would say fi because sooner or later they will have lots of stuff for it. only one year of carb models. post this on teryx hq also.
No Offence DP......But I would rather have the honesty of these Ninja's here.....besides if I went there and 4X4hac chimed in.....I dont know that I could contain myself:laugh: There may be more Tech info there.....but I'll stay here
I would go with the FI model. I drove one at the dealership and their fast little bastards. They may only go 55 MPH right now, but the potential is definately there to go faster and beat Hapa in his AC!!!k:
If you want to go fast right now, buy the 08. Then put some carbs, cams, and an 840 kit on it.
If you can wait for more EFI programmers for the 09, buy an 09. Or, if you're a baller, buy an 09 and put an aftermarket ECU on it, problem solved.
By the way, I have an 09. They don't go 55mph. Mine goes 50mph indicated on the money when the rev limiter kicks in.
be patient, waite for a deal on the fi,you'll be very glad you did...plus a nobrainer to bolt on a turbo later down the road....the carbs dont' run too good, pore starting, jetting hassles with elevation changes etc...
ya know what i'll give 4500 for that orange turd you have in your garage to jump start you teryex fund. lol j/k
oh and IMO i would go FI, i think you will get overall more power down the road when the mods start coming out strong

burned up the belt in my buddies brand new teryx in 4 hours of driving with a cdi.....electronics under the drivers seat, don't go in any water, there is NO electrical device that is water proof period!...can't open the hood, 125#s heavier than a rhino and bigger all over....
YOur rhino is probably the way u like it now, you're like all of us, u just want more power, well, put in a rotax and the power to weight ratio will be like a big block powered 32 ford coupe...the teryx has a more powerful motor, thats it...if you have aftermarket shocks and a paid off rhino, put in a rotax....then you won't have burned up belts, shorting out electrical harness's, a heavier ride that won't fit in your truck with offset wheels and you won't have carburetors backfiring because they're filled with oil because the unit was never properly R&D'd....and I don't work for any brand named sxs manufacturer....two cents..

Well I have never driven a Rotax car.....but in looking at them I'm not all that impressed for the Cost. I think the only way I would be happy is to do something like what controled force has
we are working on a turbo kit for the 09 teryxs right now. if you want to spend 7500 for an 08 let me know i have the homie hookup for you if you want it.
well,if you are addicted to the power and u dont need a four seater, waite for the can am sxs to come out next spring..I'll be honest with ya, I have a bed delete and dunestars which suck! a bone stock 660 with lowered cage and seats this is the family rhino..I duned all weekend with my two buddies with teryx's and was right on their tails all day, the only time they would pull on me was up olds...so if I'm right controlled forces' rotax is turbo'd? then if thats what u need then buying a teryx wont give u that, they run like a good running 686 kit thats dialed in by a good engine builder. They definately have more umph, but not anywhere like a turbo'd rotax rhino would have, the extra weight on the kawi is almost counterproductive in the sand...I'm not brand loyal, just have a paid off rhino and can't see re-building another sxs to fit the family right now...I've wieght the options too, I just bought a new LE teryx for my bro in law who went out with us two weeksago and the out the door cost for me was $5550 with tax and license,so I got him the deal on it and backed out of the one I wanted for myself. Just not too hip on the pro's to justify buying a new one..

the fuel injection is done, it has been on our race car for the life of the car so far. The problem is getting the system we have to fit under the engine cover of a stock teryx. it works great with lots of fuel mapping. If you guys want a good deal on a 08 Teryx call CARLS CYCLE CENTER in Bosie ID 208-853-5550 and tell them Jordan at Dragonfire sent ya and he will hook you up. Roughly $7500
thats what I told you, thats the truth, its not what but who you know...the red one with the digital dash...and the ten foot high plastic roof....decided I'd waite until they got the fuel injected model and got the bugs worked out of the loose burning belt syndrome...and once they figured out how to vent the crankcase where it wouldn't flood the motor with oil and foul the plugs from their non seating piston oil rings eah...

I heard that some manufactures offer press release units at VIP discounts lower than employee's can get them......If you know a kawi employee you probably could get hooked up through them...if the press doesn't want them, then employees have a shot to buy them, then if that doesn't happen then the dealers come in and bid on the stuff. Yamaha and honda and kawi I believe all follow the same schedule as the new year rolls around..sometimes they have an hours time on them and sometimes fifty hours...almost new..but you don't get a warranty as they sell them as used...pros and cons...I'll probably by the new years model with FI in about ten months or so...good luck...
I"m glad your's is running good, you might want to do some searching on the other forums about preventing the problems when they happen, around twenty hours belt comes loose, oil injestion into carbs etc...I'm not saying they are junk, all sxs's have problems, yes a teryx is faster, but it sure doesn't run like a rotax powered rhino.....the originator of this thread is looking for ideas,as can be seen by his post...good luck, have fun...later..

oh for sure not a rotax killer, Yeah I am all over the other forums. Big Jim will have another nice ride what ever he gets. I appreciate yoour input too sorry to get defensive. But have had good luck so far......damm next ride I am gonna dump a wrist pin or somethin......:good:
Since the FI is new....I may wait it out a yearI am a impulse buyer tho.........So there is no telling. However a teryx has been on my mind since they came out. The Cat is gonna be fast as shit.....but other than that I dont see much thats impressive....or I will get with CF and turbo a Tax
You an impulse buyer no, say it aint so. If your like me when I want something not much can be said to turn me away and if I can buy it right now and dont have to wait for things to be shipped. Shit its mine even if I paid more. want it now want it now......turbo would be sweet though less money in long run...Just build two motors so if one f's up pull a cf and change in dunes keep riding....sell that truck yet???
I probably would have bought the teryx yesterday.......but evidently my buddy that runs kawi of bako dont want to sell one. I asked his to get me an OTD price together and he never did.......oooooh well maybe next time I go down there:laugh:......Yes I finally gave that fucker away......I'd have like to got'en a little more cheddar for it but it is finallllllllllly GONE:yahoo::yahoo:
Just for a quick update on the 09s, mine already puked oil into the airbox.
Thanksgiving was the first time out, brand spanking new. You could still smell the cosmoline burning off on the first few rides.
Anyhow, put 100 miles on it at Superstition. On Friday night, on a guys only ride, I drove it as hard as it can be driven, for a stocker. Several times it suddenly lost power and when I looked behind me there was a ginormous cloud of oil smoke. After a couple moments, it cleared up and it ran great again.
Moral to the story, Kawasaki didn't fix the crankcase breathing issues on the 09s like they claim they did.
And, I firmly believe it is a crankcase design issue, not a ring sealing issue like posted elsewhere in this thread.
Now back to your regularly scheduled thread.............
Go get it BiggJim, you won't regret it. And I bet a modded Teryx will smoke a Rhintax.
I was trying to hold my tongue, BUT, I don't think a modded teryx is gonna smoke a rhintax as you say.
You are doing comparisons on what rog told you and how he beat me.
Well, just so you know, My ride hasn't ran right for at least the last 4 trips
We found a grounding problem at the drags on friday that woke my ride back up. There is no way when mine is running at peak 65 rwhp that a 686 is gonna beat me. Not that I care about dragging anymore.
Maybe a 840 kit with the efi. But then I could just say, A 840 with a turbo on my rotax can't be beat.
come on now were running stock rotaxes, don't make us start modin shit, and make you terexs look even worse.unish: lol i want to cam and head work mine to see what it'll do, not intrested in turbo yet. if we mod apples to apples you'll get smoked like some cheap mexi swag bruddas:good:
I have to agree with MAX....the stock power out of the rotax is amazingly smooth and a blast to drive..out of the box the power level stumps the brute motor. If you opened it up and ported it out and recam'd it and up'd the compression a tad and remap'd the computer I'd bet around 100hp wouldn't be a crazy idea....in a lighter rhino with some dialed in shocks and a bed delete yikes!....Making the SxS's bigger and heavier only moves them towards buying a sandrail or jeep....the success of the rhino was from its size and nimbleness and its jeeplike qualities, stray tooo far from that and you may as well go buy a Funco or suspensions unlimmitted LS powered rail, something that wont fit on a trail or have four wheel drive or fit in a pickup truck, bigger chassis's aren't always better in this case, likewise a rhino with a arms two feet to either side isn't too practical either, especially with only 42 hp..I love going duning with these yahoo's with a million inches of travel and four seater cages,I laugh when my stock powered rhino four seater with a bed delete climbs higher and dunes faster...the heavier u are the more power it takes...less weight + horsepower + dollars =s fun in the sand...
Can someone explain this siphon break thing to me? What's the vent issue? I haven't had any trouble with my Teryx since day one (except for the dry master cylinder)
All you fuggers are makin' me nervous!
When your at full speed, oil wants to spew up the crankcase breather, it usually is routed to the air filter where the engine burns off the excess.
usually minimal if no mods are done, once you add intakes, exhaust, big bores, things like that it gets worse. The siphon break lets the oil collect in a bottle, then drop back into the engine.
