you have to make sure the air jet is clean I would use a small wire or needle to make sure they are clear

One carb is brand new and I backed the air screw out from it's setting of 1 1/2 turns all the way to about 5 turns. still stayed sluggish. Thanks for the info. I may try a new pilot jet. It has a 20 in it now.

Finally, I tried to find a bigger pilot jet locally but no luck, came home and got to looking at the old jet, it was a stock 20. Decided I didn't have nothing to lose so I tried a torch tip cleaner. A 14 thousands would go thru it so I took the next size which was 17 thousands and kept working till it would go thru, put it in the new carb and set the air at 2 turns out and it fired right up. No more spit back or stalling. Thanks for the advise.
