Hi From A New (fairly) Rhino Owner

Hi this looks like a great site. Never posted to a site before so here goes. Bought a 2005 660 Rhino last fall and didn't get to use it much thru the snowy winter (Michigan). My problem is when I engage the low 4x4 lock the engine sputters and won't go. Any help for a newbie (I don't know why it hurts so mucch to say that) would be appreciated.

The only way I know to get it into 4 lock low is to push the high 4 wheel lock button, then slide the lever over then push the low lock button to engage the low lock. When I do that it sputters and wont move.

you can lock it up and not be in Low range (shifter)

We need to know with all forward and rev gears it runs OK in 4x4 (not locked)

if it runs good in 4x4 but dose not move in dif lock then pull the solenoid for the diff lock on the front end there is some ting stuck but it should still spin the rear tiresthe power for diff lock dose not run off the CDI so a short should not make the engine sputter..put it in 4x4 and drive it up the street turn around and push the diff lock and let us know what happens

THERE IS ALWAYS SOMEONE FASTER

BUT ONLY A FEW CAN FLY

Thanks to all for the responses. It will lock in 4x4 and drive, but when I try the diff lock no light comes on (and no noise is heard from the front diff while not running) and the motor acts like the torque limiter has kicked in. I talked to a service guy at a dealer and he said that the torque limiter action is normal when the diff lock malfunctions. I guess I need to find out why the diff lock isn't engaging. I will try the suggestions offered tonight. Thanks again for taking the time to respond.

I should clarify a couple of things. It will go into 4x4 and run fine in all gears. I used the term "low lock" wrong I should have said diff lock instead and finally I used the term torque limiter when I should have said rev limiter. See I am living up to the newbie title

OK, now we are getting somewhere.

You can take out the diff selector off the front diff and check for operation, just pay attention to what position it came out in, before you cycle it.

BTW, it is a little bit of a pain to do. you will have some fluid come out also, be prepared.

If it does not cycle when switch is engaged, when removed, you might have blown a fuse, ( this has happened before), if fuse is good then the selector is prob bad.

The diff may have gotten bound up some and since it cannot go all the way into full lock, you get no Indicator.

Thanks 07fj, I will go out and get my hands dirty. Hopefully I can post my findings tonight. BTW I am dying to see the full size version of the pic in your post. Where can I see it so I can stop squinting through my magnifying glass to see all the details?
