Well, just got back, was there from Thursday afternoon thru this morning.
Weather was perfect except for a little wind, but the dunes were mostly smooth & very soft.... but lots of sharp eges & witch's eyes. Two of my buddies (Shredder & BirdLegs) have the new RZR S.... awesome suspension & power, but my old beater stayed right with them.
Eventful weekend- pulled out a Ranger Crew, a quad, & I think Shredder pulled out a Revolt.
A guy wearing a Big Belly Crew shirt and driving a black Rhino with Big Belly Crew logos drove off a 12-15 foot vertical drop at about 50mph, (about 60 seconds ahead of us) between Freeway Hill and the Gordon's vendor area. It appeared to have rotated in the air, landing on the hood & roof, (can you say tent peg?) then flopped over on the driver's side. His arm went under the cage, he hit his head, got the wind knocked out of him, and it even drove his knee about 5" into the dash below the headlight switch. He was a hurtin' pup. We rigged a sling for his probable broken arm, and some folks took him to first aid in their truck. Don't know the final outcome.
Back at camp, a dude camped next to us asked me if I'd use my metal detector to help him find his watch... I said sure, lead me to the spot. I grab my gear and follow his Ranger with my Rhino. He starts driving like there is no tomorrow, (with one hand ) and then I notice his top his damaged.... turns out he rolled it with the whole family on board. Everyone had seat belts on except him, and guess where his arm went? Yup, he is driving with a broken arm. Anyway, I find the watch in about 30 seconds, and he is just beside himself with joy. (tears & everything!) Seems that this was no cheapo Timex- it was a $12,000 Rolex! After a huge bear hug & lots of tearful thanks & blessings from the whole family, they finally packed up & headed out, hopefully to the hospital. Don't know the outcome of this one either, but some people must be doing better than me, if they can afford a Rolex watch to dune with.
