Johnson Valley Closed 2010

I got this off of another site and thought we should try and help the cause too

To those that showed for the Johnson Valley Meetings you rock to those that had to stay home and whack their carrots you suck. You do however still have one last chance to make a difference if you race, frequent or ever hope to go to Johnson Valley/Lucerne after the year 2010. This WILL happen in less than 2 years if we don't getoff our butts and organized. There are no trade offs, no other areas we'll be given to race, Lucerne will just go away...

The meeting format was very unusual as the military is truly trying to pull a fast one on us and broke this up so as not to solicit comments. There will be meetings in the next few mos that will be Town Hall style but judging from the "marketing" they had in place at the various info stations they provided they are well along in the process and are now in the: "We'll do the right thing, trust us, we're the gov't and have everyones best interest in mind" phase. So either you get involved or plan or racing CORR or in Mexico exclusively as we are already losing the battles in NV and AZ. There was also talk that China Lake may be looking for some extra space and the proving grounds in Yuma needs to expand as well. So if this goes well for them and they steal JV, what's next Rigdecrest, then Glamis... Imagine a Sat at Barstow when that happens...

Here's what WE ALL need to do:

1) The link below is for a letter generator that we need to have EVERY member of RDC hit and sign. This will allow you to Fwd your comments regarding this to all the involved parties. Pas it along and DO IT, Good intentions don't mean squat!

Pirate4x4.com Land Use - Letter Generator

2)Since I'm not a comp wiz but others said they'd hook it up, someone please attach the "Written Comment Sheet" that was handed out last night. The first step in trying to save this is send in a comment card or letter voicing your opposition as this still can be stopped at the BLM level but we need to act now!!!! We need 10,000 letters or "Comment Sheets" sent:

Bureau of Land Management
Barstow Field Office: WR01
2601 Barstow Road
Barstow CA 92311

IMPORTANT: Your Comment cards and letters should state: "I demand the BLM deny the Withdrawl Application the US Marine Corps have submitted for Johnson Valley and I opposed and westerly expansion of the base." Throw in how much you use and love Johnson Valley and anything else you feel relevent, family info pictures etc...

3) Write Congressmen Jerry Lewis and suggest/demand that the Marines expand EAST, away from Johnson Valley, Lucerne, Yucca Valley and Landers. They have an option to go east but it's easier for them to go west and the terrain is better and the trails we've burned are an asset in their training.

Honerable Jerry Lewis
1150 Brookside Ave #15
Redlands, CA 92373

Further have as many friends and family from all over write their congressmen, go to Congress.org Home

4)Get involved!!! If you sit on your butts any longer this will happen and in less than 2 years your opp for recreation in the So. Cal Deserts will be halved... Then how much is that class 1, TT, 1600 or Linked truck worth??? Attend the upcoming Town Hall meetings like it was the B1K and write those letters!

The group that seems to have their hands and heads around this the most IMO is; Partnership For Johnson Valley and info can be found at: Home Page and they need your support. A time may/will come when a Lobbyist will need to be hired and at that time $'s and resources will be needed.

The meeting had a diverse attendence from 4X4 clubs to the bike racers; ranchers to miners as well as permenant and weekend residence. I was told that 22,000 private parcels are in play and approx 600 structures and most don't want to sell. Of the RDC crowd, none of the cool kids showed but a number of grass roots buggy and truck racers and Claean-Desert.org were representing as well as a number of non racers that lurk or post on here. 1 class 1 team was represented and no TT teams to my knowledge. I guess when you're a self proclaimed baller you really do expect others to carry the weight for you as you are too important to get your hands dirty. None of the Suspension, FAB, Sanctioning bodies or "Industry Cool Kids" that post on here were there. You know, the guys that: pimp their goods, show their builds and try to con us into buying the next cool part, service or class; why??? Not important enough? We stand to lose half of the local race areas we use, you test on and sell products to those that use and you cannot get off you fat butts long enough to attend a meeting? None of the Web-Site guru's or press showed. None of the "Post Whores". All and all a pretty dismal showing from the car guys and it's sad knowing how many $'s we have tied up in this sport... How many of you will beat your chest and ***** when the closed signs go up...

A couple drove up with their daughter from San Diego to attend the meeting, they have a homestead cabin out on the east end that's been in the family for generations. They ride out there twice a month and have done so for 30+ years. They found out when they hit the store in Lucerne last week that this was going on. They made time to be there...

A guy drove from Vegas who's concerend he'll not be able to attend the races he spectates and pits at. It was his daughters homecoming night and he was torn as to what was really important until his daughter said: "There will be other homecomings, go make sure I have a place to ride..." He attended

A guy drove up from Beverly Hills, rolling in his MBZ. He manages location scouting for the movie, TV and commericial industries. It was his anniversary...

The bike and 4X4 community is carrying the weight of this fight and it's no where near enough. You need to step up big and do it now. There is no more time for excuses, you can't depend on someone else, you gotta get involved. They are polishing the sign that says Welcome to Johnson Valley OHV Area "CLOSED". Unless we all get involved we're seriously screwed...
