Two way radios??

Hey guys, after my recent accident the people in my regular camp decided its probably a wise investment to get some 2 way radios and to take one with you when you go out for a ride should someone end up laid out far from camp and needs help. Many times cell phones are useless where we go.I don't want to spend big bucks on a race set up but would like something reliable for about a 20 mile range. I have searched many models on line but it appears in reviews that the actual range of many units is nowhere near what the manufacturer quotes unless you are on open water. So what works out there? Price?

My radio was $250 programmed. Its 65 watts. I had no problem talking to azbadboy from the bottom of a bowl near olds to pad 3. Some guys from my group claim the can get to the top of a dune in glamis and talk to buddies if they are on top of patton in gordons. I'll test that claim this season.

futsa!

Another thing to think about.......The race radios work off of a different frequency than regular two way.....
