leaky rear diff

I noticed the front seal on the rear diff is seaping gear oil out where the drive shaft goes into it.. I know there is a seal in there. Has anybody done this. Does anybody know if the drive shaft can be removed without loosening the engine mounts.

Yes drop out the rear diff mounts and slide back. watch so you do not lose the rear plastic plug in the drive shaft.

Another thing to look at while its apart....check out you Bolt that hold you diff in place. The long ones. On mine the threads had shown signs of being over torqued. I had to replace them both.

I have had several leak there they were all loose the pinion nut was loose If the leak is coming from where the drive shaft goes into the diff the fluid is coming past the splines not the seal I pulled them apart and used pipe sealant on the splines and reassembled.

you still have to remove the diff to do it but that would be where the oil would come from if the nut came loose and let it leak past the splines you have to remove the diff in where the shaft goes in there is a nut remove the nut and pull the spline yolk out apply sealant in the splines of the yolk reinstall and tighten the nut.
