Front Diff problem - Ring gear bolt backed out

Out on Saturday and heard a noise and a few seconds later smelt diff fluid. I removed the front diff yesterday and it has 5 or 6 small holes in the case. Looks like a bolt backed out of the ring gear and junked the case from what I can see through the holes - I never split the case yet.

I read a few other posts about this happening - how much damage does it normally do other then the case - I doesn't look like the bolt came right out, just backed out enough to cut through the case.

I had the same thing happen. Mine stopped the diff and snapped an axle and bent the other one. You can get a new diff for about $725 at yamaha sports plaza last time I checked.

Got the diff split today and it looks like only the case half was damaged so it's not as bad as I expected

I have already checked that site out and the prices aren't bad...the problem is I live in Canada and Yamaha charges twice as much for parts here compared to the US. I'm in a hurry to get it going because I plow my yard with it so I can't wait to have it shipped from there.

Went out on Sat, never heard nothing but felt a small jolt at one point, couldnt see anything at first glance then spotted diff oil dripping into the snow. Cleared snow away from diff and discovered a small hole. That was just the tip of the iceburg.
Took diff off last night, Passenger side of housing almost completely destroyed, holes worn through casing between each rib, 2 of the 6 bolts had backed out completely and fell out through the big hole at bottom of diff and stuck in the snow that collects between the diff and the skid plate, (this happened on the trail) Without even taking the diff apart, I could see that 3 more were loose. 3200 km on rhino. Diff is garbage and it is 1501.00 (I fib you not) for a new one.
