2008 450 Rhino won't idle

After sitting up for the summer I went to ride my rhino. I pulled out the choke as usual and she started up. After running a few seconds with the choke out she died. I started it up again this time with a little throttle. I could keep it running as long as I gave it gas but it would not idle. I started it up in gear and drove her around the block a few laps but as soon as I let off of the gas pedal she dies. I have never had a problem with it and everything is stock. Any Ideas????

I gotta think it is bad gas, gas starts going bad in 30 days if you don't use stabil in there, probaly gummed up the carb.

I agree w/ Max Powers, Clean out the carb, new plug, & fresh gas. Should be good to go. Couldn't hurt to try.

I have drained the old fuel and added new fuel. I removed the spark plug and it looks fouled, I sanded it down and cleaned it with fresh gas to remove the fouling. (to late tonight to get another one) I can get it to idle fine if I hold the choke out. As soon as it goes in it dies. With the choke off if I press the gas slightly I can get it to stay running at a higher rpm then an idle. However, when I do this the engine makes a sputtering or knocking sound every now and then. I will try a new spark plug tomorrow. What is the best way to clean the carb?

clogged low speed jet and idle mix screw, the main jet is bigger and less likely to clog ( but does happen).

pull the bottm bowl off to remove and clean jets and mix screw, this is also why it is popping at intermediate speeds.

BTW the stock philips screws suck, so be ready with vise grips and or replacement screws.

Up and running again

I WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR HELP!!!

It was a clogged jet after all. I cleaned all the jets until I could see light through the tiny pin holes. Reassembled and presto...

Thanks again guys,

Ryan

There is an idle adjustment screw on the engine that seems to start working loose after a while. For some reason my Yamaha Grizzly 450 started doing the same thing. Couldn't figure out why. called the dealer and they said to check and adjust it. Did so, and cranked the idle speed up just a bit. Its been fine ever since.

I unfortunately don't own a rhino at the moment, so I can't tell you for sure where the adjustment screw is on it. I know its a pretty big screw and actually crosses to the opposite side of the engine and is held in place by a wire retainer.
