660 stalls and backfires

New member, first time post. I'm glad I found this forum. I have an 06 Rhino 660. It has been great up until recently.

It started when it wouldn't idle. Then I would step on the gas and it would stall. Now the only time I can get it to run is by using the choke. If I crank it with the choke, then turn the choke off, it stalls.

I just replaced the fuel filter and it didn't seem to help much.

Should my next move be idle speed adjustment, carb cleaning, or something else. Thanks for the advice.

BTW, it's bone stock. No mods.

Thanks everyone. I'm pretty good with mechanized stuff so I trust this shouldn't be too difficult. I'm assuming that if I remove the plastic shroud and air cleaner, I should see the carb? I honestly haven't looked at it much. Anyone have a pictorial on how to do it or is it easy enough to figure out once everything is apart?

I'll probably take the time to change the plug. Gas is pretty new as well.

On the subject of gas, is there any concern about ethanol in the gas? I own a yamaha 4 stroke outboard powered boat and there is great concern in the marine circles about ethanol. Opinions? Great forum everyone.

no issues on fuel for the rhino like you outboard.

you will se the carb easy enough. and yes it is easy to clean, although the philips screw can be a pain on the bowl.

Thanks. I'll get to it this weekend, I hope.

One other question. Can you buy an oil filter at the auto parts store or is it a dealer only item?

Purolator pure one PL14610 or PL14612 (shorter stock size one) about 6.50 at PEP boys, better than stock Yami one IMO after seeing the cutaway pics.

BTW great to meet you at the AZ races, wish I had more time to BS and put Ryder in the Flyin banana for a pic
