09 700 rhino p-brake

Hello, new to forum, just got brand new rhino 700. My buddy was driving while I was hunting, he drove through parking brake for about .5 mile. After that the p-brake didn't hold. I adjusted the cable as far as it would go, but really made no difference on p-brake holding ability. Any one else have this problem? Seems like .5 mile shouldn't have ruined p-brake already.

Welcome to the forum.

You adjusted the cable? You should not have adjusted the cable. The maximum amount of free play at the lever is equal to one click of the lever.

The proper way to adjust the parking brake is at the caliper. You probably need to readjust the cable to undo what you've done. After thatn, adjust as follow.

1. Move the parking brake lever to the released position.
2. Loosen the parking brake arm nut.
3. Turn the push rod in fully, then turn it out 3/4 of a turn.
4. Tighten the parking brake nut.

I find it comes in very handy. Last weekend, we were riding at Brimstone, and one of the guys riding with us rolled his Can-am Outlander directly in from of us while we were descending a steep hill on the north end of 49A. My friend Dustin was behind my wife and me, and he and I in a panic, both set our parking brakes and ran down the hill to assist our friend. It was quite scary. The guy in the RZR behind Dustin was no help because his parking brake doesn't work, so he had to sit there with his foot on his brake. Without functioning parking brakes we could not have gotten to the Can-am rider in distress as quickly. But to each his own.
