660 Stock Horsepower

I have a stock '07 660.

I found a few different performance sites that mention the HP. One said they put a stock 660 on a dyno and it came up 24 HP. Another site that sells K & N air filters claims that the 660 is about 31 HP stock, and adding their K & N filter will add around 4 more HP. I can't find any mention of HP in any of the Yamaha specs I've looked at, they list pretty much everything but HP.

Is there a generally agreed upon HP rating for the 660 engines? I'm guessing every year from '04 forward is about the same?

it is aprox 23 hp stock, and no the K&N won't get you to 31.

cdi
cam
carb
filter
exhaust

will get you high 30's

add a machined clutch sheave for more top speed

Thanks, I appreciate the info. I've been wondering about that since I got my 660 a year and a half ago.

That site said it was 31 HP stock, and the K & N AF would add about 4 more, bring it up to about 35. A bit hard to believe, but they have filters to sell, so exaggerating the results is no surprise.

getting a true HP # is a tuff thing.

All dyno's are a little different, they may be the same make & model, but read HP a little diff.

Weller is claiming 24HP on a stock 660. (on their web site)

Pro Shop is @ 21HP

so you see there is a large % of diff. just between these two great engine building shops.

31HP is way off the mark.
31HP will cost you some money....but it is worth it for the fun factor!!!

Maybe 31HP would be close to crank HP and 23 to rear wheel HP...LBR
