Black boxes on the intake?

What are these for? and can you take them off i have a 686 with a stock carb will this afect the carb if i remove them and plug the holes?

I believe there cavities are to handle the pressure wave that comes back on a single cylinder engine. Supposed to improve intake with them.

they are kinda like the "boost bottles" on Banshees.

you prob will not tell the difference and prob will be more intake noise.

On the complete stock rhino intake,they displace the incoming air charge when the carb is closed quick.Remember,the stock system works in neg pres,as compared to open air cleaner.They help with the air balance before and after the cv carb so the slide will close properly;creates larger volumne chamber in intake. This is part of the balance problem when you put an open air cleaner ,and the cv carb doesnt respond;lost the vacumn signal

So with a mechanical aftermarket carb, like the HSR45, there is no use for them, right?

Correct, they do not need the Vacuum lift, they are all mechanical
