Cool Fuel pump problems...

Fuel pump is what I'm guessing is the problem in my case.

The motor sputters and cuts out at higher rpm's like its running out of gas... some times its worse than others, but regardless it is happening every time i put my foot in it. if i creep up to high speed i don't notice the problem as much..

I tried to climb some little hills and as it gets to the top an requires more gas, it cuts out to the point it almost stalls.

Im running an aftermarket cdi, intake and fuel pump...

also.. i was effing around with the fuel pump yesterday and noticed a hose clamp on the return tube that was kinking it off.. not sure if it was there for a reason.. i took it off and it felt 10% better... but it could just be in my head

Did it run good before? If the answer is yes don't start throwing different parts at it. Why are you running a different fuel pump than stock? You can run a modified 686 on a stock pump. Unless your fuel filter is as white as the sheet on a KKK member change it. Seriously. Seen them kick more than one person in the butt when they swore they were good.

i bought it with the aftermarket fuel pump.. stock motor stock exhaust, black rhino cdi, intake and aftermarket fuel pump...

i have a new issue... i yardsaled today in the high des.. end over end twice..

know of any good utv shops in oc area???

i plan on changing the fuel pump and slapping a full gibson exhaust kit on it.. hopefully get it dialed for the season..

Please don't take this the wrong way, but when I see something like this it tells me the previous owner had an issue with it and did not know how to fix it so threw a fuel pump at it. I assume it is the Mikuni Hi Flo pump? If so there is nothing wrong with running that pump, just not necessary. Since it is already on there might as well leave it. Just make sure it is plumbed correctly. One of the outputs has to plugged off on that one if my memory serves me correctly.

yup.. thats why it had a hose clamp kinking off one of the return lines.. i took it off.. made no difference.. i will put it back on and plug that return again. i think its not getting enough pressure. i am going to re-jet it and tinker with the pump.

Somebody help me out here if I am incorrect, but I don't think the extra line is a return. I think it has 2 supply lines for dual carbs.

Edit:

Looked on the Mikuni site. Is yours the DF62-702 on this link. It has two outputs. One should be plugged and have no lines going to it. Then one pickup from the tank, one pulse from the engine and the other is supply to the carb.

So the connection on the left should go to your tank fuel pickup (not return). The top is your pulse from the engine. The two on the right go to the carb. Either will work, just make sure the other is plugged like in the pic. There is no return connection on the pump. The return is the the y fitting in the line feeding the carb. Basically it lets any residual pressure bleed back to the tank.
