Rhino won't get up to stock speed!

I have recently purchased a 2004 Rhino 660 and we are having some issues. It will not break 28 mph in high! We have replaced the fuel filter and tried a new cdi with no avil! We were wondering if the clutch would need repaired or if there are other reasons we should look into! I runs fine other then getting the top end speed. My fiance says and I quote, "The revlimiter is kicking in." So, the rpm's are there but the thing just won't go quick enough, hmm! Help please.

FYI: It was owned by an older guy and it was stored outside.

You might want to check the belt it might be shot and if you are that far into it check the clutch too if he had it apart when he put it back together a weight might of fell out and that would cause the problem you are having

The belt appeared to be ok. He just took the cover off the belt. We will open up the clutch tomorrow and take a look.

Measure the belt...Minumum tolerence is 1.125 I believe. And if you have a stock CDI i think in the 30's is top speed

I'm pretty sure the stock Rhinos are governed at 40. I'll have him check the belt. Thx.

if you look under the hood, right next to the battery, there is a little box with three plugs going into it and one screw holding it on, it is called a cdi, or the computer for the rhino, it contains the rev limiter, you need to replace the one you have with a dynatek performance cdi.

I just happen to have a new one left over from the utvcrap trailer.
brand new they are over $200
This is a brand new one and you can have it for $175

MEASURE the V belt (the belt that runs the clutch) 1.31in or 33.2mm is new..... 1.18in or 29.9mm is no good and out of specification. It sounds like its time for a new belt .. and the deal max has for that cdi is a good one and something you should get but reving out and not going really sounds like the belt.....hope this helps

Thank you everyone for all the input! It was the clutch, mud and crap in it! All we had to do was take everything apart and clean it. It was completely gunked up and the lube was all dry and crumbling. It was a zero cost fix and runs perfect now!! Thank you!
