I put this up on the red site back in March and figured out what it was last night, check it, what ya tink bout dat.
What’s that new Clack Clack UPDATE
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Coming from the right rear of my wife’s long travel car when making a right hand turn on hard pack?
Broken retainer cage?
Bad balls?
Plain old worn out CV?
Time for a new powerband?
Nothing obvious like bent parts or loose bolts. Can’t feel it, just hear it and its getting damn annoying.
Seeing if anyone has had this problem before I start taking things apart.
Thanks.
7/24/08 UPDATE
Found out the noise,
Took apart the right rear inner CV last night, when I peeled the boot back one ball fell out, one.
So I washed the whole thing in solvent before disassembly and it looks like when the suspension went to full droop it popped one CV ball out, it also chewed up the outter part of the CV by the retainer snap ring and that little star thingy that the ball runs on inside attached to the axle but thats it.
Anyone ever have that happen?
The crazy thing, I ran it like that for probably 200 miles, never did anything other than click at low speed during a turn.
The best part, it didnt look as bad as it sounds so I cleaned it up and put it back together for our trip to Mammoth next week. Ill replace it later.
