My Rhino is STOCK as far as the engine goes. I have a CDI and one of the home made RAIS intake. I am looking for some more power but keeping reliable. I was thinking of a cam and some port work to start with. Then maybe a bigger carb and exhaust... Any input would be great.. What kind of cams you guys running?:confused:

Imo anytime you start modifying the engine, it tends to be less reliable now Im no expert but, most people tend to just stick with the basics, CDI and Sheave and maybe intake and exhaust. those four things should bring you to 60mph or so.

Yea, i know extensive engine mods can make the reliablity suffer. Just wondering what kind of gains people saw with teh cam and port work...

s2k1 would be the guy to answer that question. you can add a ron wood pipe, a sheave and duners kit, proper jetting and it will move damn good and be very reliable. The port job is only gonna be a good thing, the cam, I have no experiance with, so I leave that to the motor guy.

i did the head port polish , 10 3/4 piston bigger valves and stud kit and mudbuster cam stage II (( still 660 bore)). It made a little difference but not as much as i hopped the power is now good from bottom end to top and on the dyno the power curve is almost flat. Before the mods it would peak then fall off. I still have a stock carb , single FMF muffler on a stock pipe with a intake that is outside yhe engine compartment with a uni and a 205 main jet, and it run 13 to 13.5 with the mass air sensor

Thanks for the input.... So it made a difference just not as much as you would have liked. I am at a road here where i was more power and looking at different options to get it. I have a friend with a CBR900RR engine for CHEAP that i am also concidering for power plant.

Yea, im sure you know how im feeling. I LOVE my rhino and all but damn i wanna go faster!! and im worried that for what it costs to make the "rhino" engine fast i could have something else in it MUCH faster...

This combination's potential is not being seen, IMO. The exhaust is restricting it like crazy. Exhaust on a stock engine doesn't do much, but on a motor with those mods, it does.

Think of it like this: An engine is basically an air pump. The whole combination needs to be well matched to see it's potential. If you port the head and put a "big" cam in it, it will be "capable" of moving more air but will be limited by the exhaust and carb. I would do the carb 1st, exhaust 2nd, (or vice versa), and the porting/cam last or all at the same time.

it does need a dual setup but the fmf muffler im running has pretty much no restriction. I know air in air out creates horepower

i just need to figure what dual setup to run gibson is supposed to be sending me a less restrictive muffler they are working on i allready have the header which is bigger than the stock. Not sure if this wiil really help

For me my biggest gain was the Intake I went with the K&N set up by removing the whole air box similar to a cold air intake and proper jetting. I do have a Gibson to stay quiet. I noticed the most bottom end with a better intake. Even over the Sheve CDI duners kit and exhaust. I think we are all looking for more power without spending a ton of money. Let us know when you find the answer.

When are you suppose to get it???? I am curious to see if it my ROGMOD.

did the 686 kit w/10:1 compression piston, stage II cam, port & polish. did'nt notice the increase i was hoping for. a friend suggested new carb /w intake & exhaust, made all the difference in the world, very impressed now.
